The Assembly met at 10 A.M. The day was devoted for transaction of Government Business.
Starred Questions No. 5 to 9 with supplementaries thereto were replied. Unstarred Questions No.1 to 7 with answers were laid on the tables.
Shri B.B. Lyngdoh, Minister of Finance moved the Demand for Advance grants for the first quarter of the Financial Year ending 31st March, 1972 of the Government of Meghalaya. The motion was put as question from the Chair and adopted without any discussion.
Shri B.B. Lyngdoh ( Minister of Finance ) introduced the Meghalaya Appropriation, (Vote on Account) Bill, 1971. The motion for consideration and passing also moved and adopted without any discussion. The Bill was then passed.
There was a Notice given by Shri D.D. Pugh, M.L.A., under Rule 50 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Assembly to raise a discussion relating to the influx of Pakistani refugees on the side of the border of Meghalaya due to recent political unrest in East Pakistan was then taken up. Shri D.D. Pugh, who sponsored the notice raised the discussion. As many as 8 Honourable Members took part in the discussion. The Chair Minister also made a statement in reply.
As discussion was closed the House was then adjourned at 3.40 P.M., to meet again at 10 A.M., on Wednesday, the 31st March, 1971.
