        The Assembly met at 10 A.M., with the Speaker in the Chair. The day was devoted for transaction of Government Business.

QUESTIONS :

        Starred Question No.16 with few supplementaries were replied. Unstarred Question Nos.20 to 28 with answers were laid on the tables of the hon. Members. There were few supplementaries to these Unstarred Questions to which the Ministers Incharge replied.

VOTING ON DEMANDS FOR GRANTS :

        The following Demands for Grants were passed to-day :-

1.

Grant No.8. "Parliament, State/Union Territory Legislature-B-State Legislature".

2.

Grant No.9 "Parliament, State/Union Territory Legislature-C-Election".

3.

Grant No.10 "General Administration-I-Heads of States and Ministers".

4.

Grant No.11 "General Administration-II-Secretariat and attached Offices".

5.

Grant No.12. "General Administration-III-Commissioners and District Administration".

6.

Grant No.16. "22-Jails".

7.

Grant No.17. "Police".

8.

Grant No.19-Miscellaneous Departments-II-Trade Commissioner".

9.

Grant No.24. "28-Education", was also moved.

        The cut motion in respect of this Grant was moved by H.S. Lyngdoh, but before any other Member could take part in the discussion, the time was up.   

        Except cut motion relating to Grant No.17, other cut motions in respect of the Grant were either withdrawn or not moved. The cut motion in respect of Grant No.17 "23-Police" was pressed for division but was lost-(voting Ayes 11 and Noes 31) -

CALLING ATTENTION MOTION UNDER RULE 54

        Shri Upstar Kharbuli called the attention of the Chief Minister under Rule 54 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Assembly to a news item appearing in a local Khasi Newspaper "U Nongsain Hima" dated the 14th June, 1972, under the caption "Ka Shillong Employment Exchange" to which the Minister-Incharge Labour made a statement.

ADJOURNMENT :

        The House was then adjourned at 5.10 P.M., till 10 A.M., on Thursday, the 29th June, 1972.
