The Assembly met at 9.30 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.

1.    REPORT OF THE BUSINESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE :

        The Speaker announced the Report of the Business Advisory Committee recommending the time allocation for various classes of business for the current session.

        The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri. M.N. Majaw, moved a motion for approval of the Calendar prepared by the Business Advisory Committee, which was adopted by the House.

2.    PANEL OF CHAIRMEN :

        The following hon'ble members were nominated by the Speaker to the Panel of Chairman for the current session :-

1. Shri. S.D.D. Nichols Roy;
2. Shri. D.D. Lapang;
3. Shri. B.G. Momin; and
4. Shri. B. Wanniang.

3.    ORDINANCE :

        The National Sports Club of Assam (taking over of management) Ordinance, 1978, was caused to be laid by the Chief Minister, Shri. D.D. Pugh.

4.    LAYING OF REPORTS :

        The following Reports were laid on the table of the Minister for Power, Geology and Mining, Shri. H. Hadem :-

(i) Statement of Accounts of the Meghalaya State Electricity Board for the year 1975-75 (21.2.75 to 31.3.75);
(ii) Statement of Accounts of the Meghalaya State Electricity Board for the year 1975-76; and
(iii) Thirteenth Annual Report (1976-77) of the Assam and Meghalaya Mineral Development Corporation Ltd.

5.    SUPPLEMENTARY DEMANDS FOR GRANTS AND
       SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATIONS FOR 1978-79 :

        The Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Finance, Shri. S.D. Khongwir, presented the Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriations for the year 1978-79.

6.    OBITUARY

        The Chief Minister made a moving reference to the demise of Shri. Biren Mitra, former Chief Minister of Orissaand Pandit H.N. Kunjru, former M.P. Shri. Maham Singh from the Congress Party also shared the sentiments expressed by the Leader of the House and paid respectful homage to the leaders.

        The Speaker associated with the feelings expressed by the Leader of the House and wished eternal rest and peace to the departed soul, and all strength and fortitude to the members of the bereaved families. The House thereafter observed one minute's silence.

7.    ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CHAIR :

        The Speaker granted official recognition to the party comprising the Congress Members and another Independent member as the Meghalaya United Legislative Front to function as the Opposition Party inside the House and its Leader, Shri. W.A. Sangma, as the Leader of the Opposition.

8.    ADJOURNMENT

        There being no more business to be transacted, the Speaker adjourned the House at 9.46 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. on June 14, 1978.
