The Assembly met at 9.30 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.

1.    QUESTIONS :

        Unstarred Questions Nos.38 - 51 were disposed of with supplementaries on questions Nos.38 - 41, 45 - 50.

        The Minister for Community Development, Shri. M.N. Majaw, made a short statement clarifying his earlier reply to a supplementary on Unstarred Question No.9 asked on June 23, 1978.

2.    VOTING ON DEMANDS FOR GRANTS

        The House passed Grants Nos.36 - 46. Cut Motion No.2 on Grant No.36 was withdrawn by the Mover after hearing the Minister-in-charge of Law, who was replying on behalf of the Minister for District Council Affairs who was absent.

        Moving his Cut Motion, Shri. U. Kharbuli (MULF) blamed the Government for delaying the constitution of the Garo Hills District Council after the last elections in May, 1978, and in encouraging defection of members.

        The leader of the Opposition, Shri. W.A. Sangma, fell in line with the mover.

    3.    Shri. S.P. Swer (ULP)

    4.    Shri. Mozibar Rahman (IND)

        Replying to the discussion, the Minister for Law, Shri. M.N. Majaw, refuted the charge that there was delay in constituting the Garo Hills District Council. He emphatically denied that the Government had anything to do by way of interference with the affairs of the District Council.

        ADJOURNMENT

        As there was no more business to be transacted, the House was adjourned by the Speaker at 11.12 A.M. till 9.30 A.M. on June 29, 1978.
