The House met at 9.30 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.

1.    QUESTIONS :

        Unstarred Questions Nos.22 & 23 were disposed of with supplementaries.

2.    CONSIDERATION AND PASSING OF RULES :

        The following Bills were passed by the House :-

i) The Meghalaya Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill, 1979;
ii) The Meghalaya Finance Bill, 1979;
iii) The Meghalaya Finance (Sales tax) (Amendment) Bill, 1979;
iv) The Meghalaya Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill, 1979;
v)

The Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Speaker and Deputy Speaker Salaries & Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 1979;

vi) The Meghalaya (Ministers' Salaries & Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 1979.

        The two amendments tabled by Shri. H. Hadem (HSPDP) on the Meghalaya Finance (Sales tax) (Amendment) Bill, 1979, were withdrawn by leave of the House after clarification by the Minister Finance, so also the only amendment tabled by Shri. Manik Das (MULF) on the Meghalaya Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill, 1979.

3.    WITHDRAWAL OF BILL :

        The Meghalaya Purchase Tax (Amendment) Bill, 1979, was withdrawn by the Minister incharge, viz., Shri. M.N. Majaw as there was bitter opposition against taxation on potato as envisaged in this Bill.

4.    GENERAL DISCUSSION ON THE BUDGET :

        Shri. Maham Singh (MULF) took the floor to take part on the general discussion on the Budget but before he could make out his point, the time was up and he was to continue on the next day.

5.    ADJOURNMENT

        The House stood adjourned till 9.30 A.M. on Friday, the 30th March, 1979.
