The Assembly met at 9.30 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.
Unstarred Questions Nos.3 - 5 were disposed of with supplementaries thereto.
The Speaker informed the House that out of 425 Assembly Questions sent to various Government Departments as on February 27, 1980, replies to only 5 questions had been received till March 5, 1980.
Shri. P.R. Kyndiah, Leader of the Opposition, called the attention of the Minister-in-charge of Industries to the sufferings of coal miners and labourers of Cherra - Laitryngew coal fields as a result of discontinuance of purchase of coal by the Mawmluh-Cherra Cement Ltd.
The Minister for Industries, Shri. Salseng Marak, informed the House that diesel oil is necessary for running the compressors, shovels and dumpers to carry limestones from the mines to the crushes. Due to the shortage of diesel oil this operation had come to a virtual standstill, and consequently there was no consumption of coal by the kilns. He added that the Company had sufficient stock of coal, rendering further accumulation of coal unnecessary for the present. He hoped that with the improvement of supply position of diesel oil the present impasses would be overcome.
