Starred question No.1 and unstarred questions Nos.9 and 10 were disposed of with supplementaries.
Shri. P.R. Kyndiah, Leader of the Opposition, called the attention of the Chief Minister to the news item which was published in the Amrita Bazar Patrika on March 3, 1980, under the caption "Major quake may hit Shillong in this decade" and wanted to know the action taken by the Government to meet the eventuality.
Shri. B.B Lyngdoh, Chief Minister, stated that the scientists had not been able to pin-point the exact epicentre of the earthquake. However, he stated that the Government had already constituted a State level committee to consider all preparatory measures in this connection.
The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri. Maham Singh, introduced the Meghalaya State Legislature (Continuance of the English language) Bill, 1980.
The Chief Minister, Shri. B.B. Lyngdoh, presented the Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for 1979-80 on behalf of the Minister for Finance.
The following members participated on the Motion of Thanks on the Governor's Address and brought forward various issues having bearing on the matters referred to in the Address for redress by the Government.
