        The Assembly mat at 10 A.M. with Shri Rowell Lyngdoh, Chairman, presiding.

1. QUESTIONS :

        Unstarred questions Nos.236 -247 were disposed of.

2. GENERAL DISCUSSION ON THE BUDGET :

        The following members participated in the budget discussion :-

( i ) Shri Tylli Kyndiah,
( ii ) Shri P.R. Kyndiah, Leader of the Opposition, 
( iii ) Shri K.E. Tariang,
( iv ) Shri G.A. Marak.

          The Leader of the Opposition remarked that the budget was stale and uninspiring. He did not notice any remarkable venture aimed at rooting out poverty.

        Replying to the budget discussion, the Minister incharge of Finance, Shri Maham Singh, stated that all constructive suggestions put forward by various members had been taken note of and would receive due attention of the Government. The Minister claimed that there had been considerable achievements during the past years in all developmental activities of the Government. He quoted figures to prove that Government was involved in much larger role compared to what had been immediately after the inception of the State. He concluded by saying that Government would continue striving towards the goal of self-reliance.
