        The Assembly met at 10 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.

1. QUESTIONS :

        Unstarred questions Nos.264-271 were disposed of with supplementaries thereto.

2. ZERO HOUR :

        The Leader of the Opposition, Shri P.R. Kyndiah, expressed great concern at the frequent vehicular accidents in the State, particularly in the Khasi Hills, involving loss of human life.

        The Deputy Chief Minister, Shri S.D. Khongwir, informed the House that the Government was equally concerned and ascribed the reasons for such accidents either to mechanical failure, rash and negligent driving, over loading or intoxication on the part of the drivers. He assured the House that Government would strictly enforce the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act to deal with the situation.

3. APPROPRIATION BILL :

        The Meghalaya Appropriation (No.1) Bill, 1981, relating to the Excess Grants for 1977-78 and the Meghalaya Appropriation (No.II) Bill, 1981, relating to the Supplementary Demands for Grants for 1980-81 were passed without any discussion.

4. VOTING ON DEMANDS FOR GRANTS :

        (i) The House passed Grant No.55. Cut Motion No.1 on the grant was withdrawn after adequate reply by the Minister of State for Sericulture and Weaving, Shri Prithington Sangma, while Cut Motion No.2 was not moved.

        (ii) The discussion on Grant No.56 was inconclusive for want of time.

ADJOURNMENT :

        The House was adjourned by the Deputy Speaker till 10 A.M. on Monday, March 16, 1981.
