        The Assembly met at 10 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.

1. QUESTION HOUR :

        U M.N. Majaw stressed the necessity of introducing science classes in the night shifts of colleges to enable students who were otherwise busy during day time to avail of the opportunity.

        The Chief Minister informed the House that night classes in colleges were generally held from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. only. As per University norm the duration of science classes was to be 5 to 6 hours daily and science classes at night were, therefore, not feasible.

3. GOVERNMENT BILLS :

        The following Bills were passed without any discussion :-

(ii)

The Meghalaya Forest (Removal of Timber) (Regulation) Bill, 1981,

(iii)

The Meghalaya Finance (Sales Tax) (First Amendment) Bill, 1981,

(iv)

The Meghalaya Finance (Sales Tax) (Second Amendment) Bill, 1981,

(v)

The Meghalaya Finance (Sales Tax) (Third Amendment) Bill, 1981,

(vi)

The Meghalaya Finance (Sales Tax) (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 1981,

(vii)

The Meghalaya Purchase Tax (Amendment) Bill, 1981,

(viii)

The Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax (Amendment) Bill, 1981.

4. PRESENTATION OF REPORTS :

        i) Shri B. Pakem, Minister incharge of Industries, presented the Report of the Select Committee on the Meghalaya School Education Bill, 1981.

        ii) Shri B. W. Momin, Chairman, Committee on Petitions presented the Third Report of the Committee on Petitions.

ADJOURNMENT :

        There being no more business to be transacted, the House rose at 10:18 A.M. and stood adjourned till 10 A.M. on Tuesday, March 31, 1981.
