The Assembly met at 10 A.M. with the Speaker in the Chair.
Shri D.D. Lapang (Cong) drew the attention of the House to the devastating fire at Mawrong village on the 13th March, 1983, which gutted down 49 homesteads and rendered nearly 300 homeless. He urged Government to render necessary relief to the affected.
The Minister for Revenue, Shri B. Pakem, informed the House that necessary relief measures had already been initiated by the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills.

The participants by and large dwelt at length on the subjects referred to in the Address and offered their individual suggestions for better and effective implementation of the plans and programmes of the Government.
