MEGHALAYA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY
RE-ASSEMBLED BUDGET SESSION,
(MONDAY, THE 15th JUNE, 1998)
The House met at 10 a.m. with the Hon'ble Speaker in the Chair, the day was devoted for the transaction of Government business.
1.LAYING OF ORDINANCE :
Mrs. R. Warjri, Minister incharge of Urban Affairs, laid the Meghalaya Municipal (Amendment ) Ordinance, 1998.
Shri D.D. Lapang, Leader of Opposition suggested that in so far this ordinance is concerned, it should be referred to the select Committee for eliciting public opinion.
Shri D.N. Joshi endorsed the proposition put forth by the Leader of Opposition and opined that since this was a very sensitive issue, it should be referred to the select Committee.
Mrs R..Warjri, urban Affairs Minister replying, stated that the Bill was already drafted and it will come before the House and at that time only it may be referred to the Select Committee as suggested by the Members.
2.GENERAL DISCUSSION ON THE BUDGET :
Shri D.N. Joshi, initiated the general discussion on the Budget. Describing the Budget anti-people oriented, he stated that it may benefit only the richer class of the Society since he felt that no proper exercise has been taken by the Government while preparing it.
Dr. Mukul Sangma participated. He also spoke at length on a wide range of subjects dealing with the immediate upliftment of areas in his constituency.
Since there was no other Member willing to take part during the day, the House rose at 11.40 a.m. and stood adjourned till 10.a.m. on Tuesday the 16th June 1998.
