The House met at 10 a.m. with the Hon' ble Speaker in the Chair. The day was devoted for the transaction of Government Business.
Shri Lot Singh Sangma continued his debate on the Governor's Address which remained inconclusive on 27.3.98.
Other participants included (1) Shri O.N. Chyrmang. He supported the motion of Thanks included (1) Shri O.N. Chyrmang. He supported the motion of Thanks (2) Shri K.K. Dkhar (3) Shri F.D. Marak (4) Shri Sujit Sangma (5) Shri Monindra Rava (6) Shri Salseng C. Marak and (7) Shri D.D. Lapang, Leader of Opposition. All of them supported the amendment to the motion of thanks.
The House was adjourned at 12.10 p.m. for a 20 minutes break to enable the Home Minister to reply to the debate on the Governor's Address on behalf of the Chief Minister.
The House re-assembled at 12.30 p.m. with the Hon' ble Speaker in the Chair to transact the remaining business.
Giving a categorical reply to the points raised by the Members during the four days debate on the Governor's Address, Shri A.H. Scott Lyngdoh, Minister incharge Home, complimented the sincere efforts of all the participants who had taken care to project the aspirations of the people through their participation the deliberations.
He assured the House that the Government will sincerely work towards the development of the State and impressed upon all of them to forgo their political difference and to work together to achieve this objective.
He also replied to the other points for clarification sought by the mover of the amendment and other members stating that their suggestions will be looked into and examined by the concerned department.
The sitting of the House was extended until the Minister incharge completes his reply with the sense of the House.
As regards the setting up of an enquiry Committee by the House to go into the weightings which appeared in the "Mid day" newspaper as raised by the Leader of the opposition. The Home Minister apprised the House that an Enquiry Committee will be constituted to be notified in due course with the Hon' ble Speaker as the Chairman.
The amendment was withdrawn by the mover, Shri K.C. Boro with the leave of the House.
The following motion was thereafter adopted by the House by a voice vote.
"That the Members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly assembled in this session are deeply grateful to the Governor for the address which he has been pleased to deliver to this House today, the 23rd March 1998".
The House rose at 2.45 p.m. and stood adjourned till 10 a.m. on Tuesday, the 31st March, 1998.
