The House met at 10.00 a. m. with the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker in the Chair.

Starred Questions from 10 to 19 were disposed of.

Un-Starred Question No.1 was also disposed of.

CALLING ATTENTION NOTICE :

Shri. Manas Chaudhuri call the attention of the Minister in-charge Home under Rule 54 (1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business to the news item published in the Shillong Times dated 9.3.2006 under the caption “Centre, HNLC await States’ signal for talks”.

The mover stated that although the Government’s doors are opened but invitation for talks to the HNLC are yet to be issued. He lamented that if the situation is allowed to drift, the HNLC will ultimately take up to arms and start recruiting people again.

Replying to the Calling Attention, the Chief Minister informed that the State Government had been keeping its doors open for dialogue with the militant organization. He lauded the Police force for its good performances in bringing down militancy in the State. The Chief Minister further stated that the HNLC had written a letter to the Prime Minister with various points as the basis to begin dialogue and, the State Government in this regard has not received any communication on the matter from the Government of India.
