The House met at 10.00 am with the Hon’ble Speaker in the Chair. The day was devoted for the transaction of Government Business.
1. QUESTIONS :
Starred Question from No. 28 to 33 were disposed of Starred Question from 34 to 36 could not be disposed of for want of time. Unstarred Question No 5 to 8 were also disposed of.
2. CALL ATTENTION NOTICE :
Under Rule 54 (1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, Dr. P. W. Khongjee MLA called the attention of the Deputy Chief Minister i/c Fisheries to the news item published in “U Mawphor” dt.3.11.2008 under the caption “Pynshisha ka LWSEDO ba dang bun ki dohkha ba im ha ki wah ba don par Uranium”
Initiating the discussion, the Mover wanted to know from the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Fisheries as to whether any enquiry had been done by the Department to ascertain the fact that there are still many fishes alive in the river below the uranium mining as stated by the LWSEDO Social Organisation.
Replying to this, the Deputy Chief Minister i/c Fisheries confirmed that the Department had conducted an enquiry and found that there were still many fisheries alive in the river. The local villagers informed the Department that due to wanton killing of fishes by unscrupulous persons had dwindled their population. However, a strict vigil was adopted by the villagers to prevent anymore killing of these fishes. However, this matter is yet to be proved scientifically.
3. INTRODUCING OF BILLS:
(a) Shri Manas Chaudhuri, Minister i/c Education introduced the University of Science and Technology Bill, 2008.
(b) Shri Manas Chaudhuri, Minister i/c Education introduced the Techno Global University Bill, 2008.

4. LAYING OF THE MEGHALAYA CONSUMER PROTECTION (AMENDMENT) RULES, 2006
Shri J. A. Lyngdoh, Minister i/c Food & Civil Supplies laid the Meghalaya Consumer Protection (Amendment) Rules, 2006.
5. ADJOURNMENT :
Since there is no more business, the House rose at 11.25 a.m and stands adjourned till 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday, the 12th November, 2008.
