At present, under the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members' Pension) Act, 1977 only a person who has served as a member of the Legislative Assembly for a period of not less than five years is untitled to a pension under the said Act.
It is considered expedient not to deprive a member of this pension benefit whose service as a Member falls short of five years by a period not exceeding three months in the event of early holding election.
Hence the Bill.
