Income from Tourism

(a) Whether it is a fact that Meghalaya with its vast potentials on Tourism failed primarily to derive sizeable income from this sector despite receiving enormous funds from the Central Government?   (a) Sir, due to relatively poor communication infrastructure and continued adverse law and order situation in the North East Region, the income from investment made in the tourism sector has not been of desired level.
(b) What is the present position of the Crowborough Hotel?   (b) Due to litigation with the contractor, the construction process of the Crowborough Hotel has been held up.
(c) When will it be commissioned?   (c) Due to on-going litigations, it is not possible to indicate a time frame for completion of the project.

CBI Cases

(b) If so, what are these Departments and upto what extend formulation had been completed for handing over to the CBI?   (b) The concerned Department are :-
1. Health & Family Welfare Department,
2. Tourism Department.
3. ERTS Department.
4. P.H.E. Department.
5. Agriculture & Minor Irrigation Department.
6. Forest Department.

    All the concerned Departments have been asked to process the cases for handing them over to the CBI and they are being processed accordingly.

Inner Line Permit

VIP Lights

   The revised scale of pay as recommended by the 3rd Meghalaya Pay Commission 1996 was also extended to the Primary School teachers w.e.f. 1.1.96. Fund for part payment of the arrears has also been allotted.

Border Trade

  The re-opening of Border Trade has been taken up with Government of India. The Government of India have in turn taken up the matter with Bangladesh Government. We are pursuing the matter.

 

Coloured Plastics

Employment Opportunities

(a) The numbers of employment opportunities to educated unemployed youths in the vacant posts which are likely to be affected due to extension of retirement age to sixty years?   (a) The number of Government employees who were otherwise due to retire but whole retirement age has been raised from 50 to 60 years has been assessed at approximately 800.
(b) Whether the Government has framed time bound employment policy for the educated unemployed youths?   (b) & (c) Besides the existing Governmental Schemes Programmes, Orders have also been issued fro raising the maximum age of entry into Government service by another 2 years. Further, it has also been decided to constitute a Task Force to Monitor and expedite the process of filling up of existing vacancies.
 
 
 

Rail Link

The State Government in November 1998 had requested the Ministry of Railways to go ahead with the alignment already surveyed from Digaru to Byrnihat and ensure speedy implementation of the project.

 
 

Shifting of Sweeper Colony

    1. 13 families have been shifted to Good Wood Compound Polo.
    2. 9 families to Lumpyngngad behind Chief Secretary's residence.
    3. 12 families below Glanaurt Bungalow Compound near Wards Lake.
    4. 8 families to Falls View Bungalow Compound.

3. Pancharing to Kultapara village (5 Km). The progress of work is that formation work is almost (95%) complete and construction of culverts is in progress. The bridge is yet to be sanctioned.
4. Rangthong to Sarin village (3 Km). The construction of one bridge is in progress. Formation work 95% completed.
