Tourist Spots

(a) Whether the Government proposed to take up construction of Tourist Spots in the State?   (a) Yes, Sir.
 
(b) If so, the criteria for site selection?   (b) The selection of site is based on recommendations received, potential to attract tourists, lack of adequate infrastructure etc.
 
 
(c) If not, the reason thereof?   (c) Does not arise.

Opacity of Glass Windows, etc, in Motor Vehicle

*47. Will the Minister-in-charge, Transport be pleased to state :-    
(a) Whether there is any Act, Rule or Regulation that specifies the opacity of glass windows, windscreens etc. used in motor vehicles?   (a) Yes, Sir,
 
 
(b) If so, what is the permitted opacity?   (b) The glasses used in Windscreens and rear windows of motor vehicles should be such and shall be maintained in such condition that the visual transmission of light shall not be less than 70%.
 
 
 
(c) If answer to (a) is in the affirmative, what is the reasons that the same is not implemented in Meghalaya?   (c) A decision has been taken to ban the use of dark glasses/sun control film in vehicles. Enforcement is being strengthened.
 

Prohibition of Smoking

(b) If so, whether Government has prosecuted any person under the said Act?   (b) No, Sir.
 

Office Building of P&T Deptt.

(a) Whether the Government is aware that the Post and Telegraph Department has constructed office building on the Land belonging to Khliehriat Block? (a) No, Sir.

 
(b) The area of the land that has been parted to the Post and Telegraph Department? (b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.
 
(c) The authority who allotted the land to the said department? (b) Does not arise.
 
(d) What is the amount of compensation paid to the state Government in lieu of the land? (d) Does not arise.
 

HSS Building at Dalu

(a) Whether it is a fact that a Higher Secondary Schools Building has been constructed at Dalu?   (a) Yes, Sir.
 
(b) If so, what is the present position of the buildings?   (b) As at (a) above.
(c) Whether the Government intends to start Higher Secondary level classes at Dalu in the said building or any other places?   (c) Yes, Sir, under consideration.

 
(d) If not, the reason thereof?   (d) Does not arise in view of reply at (c) above.

Non-functioning of W.S.S.

(a) Whether Government is aware that Water Supply Schemes in the Villages of Nginiong, Umjakoid, Umdum and Domkseh under Nongstoin P.H.E. Division are not functioning?   (a) Sir, while the Nginiong and Domkseh Water Supply Scheme are functioning satisfactory, the Umdum and Umjakoid Water Supply Scheme are functioning partially due to damages in the clear water main and the distribution system.
(b) If so, whether Government is contemplating to augment the same?


 
  (b) Sir, the damage in the case of Umjakoid Water Supply Scheme is under repair and shall be completed shortly, whereas in the case of Umdum Water Supply Scheme the repairs shall be completed and made fully functional on completion of the PWD road construction.

Central Assistance

(a) How much Central assistance had been received for tourist promotion avenue in the State?
 
  (a) From the year 1985-86 onwards Government of India has released a total amount of Rs.268.89 lakhs for Tourism Promotion in Meghalaya.
(b) The nature of spending the fund towards minor/major project?

 
  (b) The amount of Rs.268.89 lakhs released by Government of India till date is being utilised for construction of infrastructural facilities in different parts of the State, purchase of equipment printing of publicity materials etc.

Non-banking Companies

  (b) There are only two Non-Banking Financial Companies in Meghalaya which have been registered by the Reserve Bank of India. One of them was registered on 27.4.98 and the other on 9.8.98, Sir.
(c) How many have wound up their operations in Meghalaya during the last 5 years?

(d) What is the quantum of financial loss to the public as a result of their winding up operations in the State?

C.H.C. at Dalu

  (c) Because water supply and external electricity connection to the C.H.C. building is not yet completed.

Non-plying of Bazar Bus

(a) Whether Government is aware that the Service Bazar Bus could not ply on Myriaw-Masar (under Nongstoin PWD (R) Division) during Summer due to the deteriorated condition of the road?   (a) Yes, Sir.


 
(b) If so, what steps will the Government take to make the road motorable.   (b) Effort is being made to repair the road from the normal repair fund available with the Division.

Demonstration by MIDC Staff
