(b) If so, what steps the department had taken to stop soil erosion ?   (b) The Department has taken up following programmes to stop soil erosion,
(i)    Jhum Control Programme
    (ii)   Watershed Development Programme
    (iii)   Soil Conservation Schemes in general areas.
(c) How many hectare the department had been able to contain soil erosion since 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 ?   (c) 1997-98        ... 2756.05 ha

Super Market

(c) Whether it is a fact that there was a proposal for the construction of a new Super-Market at Williamnagar, but the proposal had been turned down by the Government ?   (c) No, Sir. There was no proposal for construction of another new Super Market at Williamnagar.
 

Coal Depot at Mawsmai

(a) The reason for setting up the MMDC Coal Depot at Mawsmai near Jorabat ?
 
  (a) The reason for setting up the MMDC Coal Depot at Mawsmai (near Jorabat) is to provide storage facility for Meghalaya Coal traded through this route.
(b) The total investment made in setting up the M.M.D.C. Coal Depot at Mawsmai ?   (b) The total investment made in setting up the MMDC Coal Depot at Mawsmai is Rs.443.12 lakhs.
(c) Whether the M.M.D.C. Coal Depot at Mawsmai has been inaugurated and the date of the inauguration ?   (c) MMDC's Coal Depot at Mawsmai was inaugurated on 6.12.1999.
(d) The number of units constructed for storing coal and the proposed monthly rent for each unit ?
 
  (d) 75 units have been constructed for storing coal. The rent has been fixed at Rs.21.50 per square metre per month.
(e) Whether as of date any parties are using the facilities for storing coal ?   (e) No, Sir.

Requirement of Beef, etc.

(a) Total monthly requirement of Beef, Pork, Mutton and Chicken in the State.

 
  (a) Sir, the total monthly requirement of meat, beef, pork, mutton and chicken in the State is 2470 tonnes, that is beef-1541 tonnes, pork-686 tonnes, mutton -100 tonnes and chicken -143 tonnes.
(b) The total quantity locally available of the same ?


 
  (b) Sir, the total quantity of meat viz. Beef, pork, mutton and chicken locally available monthly in the State is 1768 tonnes, that is Beef-937 tonnes, pork- 611 tonnes, mutton -81 tonnes and chicken-139 tonnes.

Number of Electrified Villages

  (b) The villages yet to be electrified at the fag end of 1999-2000 according to 1991 census is 504. No villages was electrified during 1999-2000.

Jhum Cultivation

(c) What steps the Government taken to reclaim damaged land, and the amount spent earmarked for 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 ?   (c) A statement is placed on the Table of the House.

 

Closure of Police Outpost

(a) Whether it is a fact that the Mangsang Police Outpost has been closed down after 18(eighteen) years from the date of commissioning although a huge amount of money had been spent for the construction of the office building and the staff quarters ?   (a) Yes, Sir.



 
(b) If so, the reasons thereof ?
 
  (b) Due to increasing militant activities in the area rendering the outpost vulnerable to militants action.
(c) Whether the Mangsang Police Outpost will be reopened ?   (c) Yes, Sir.

DMR Checkgate

(a) The average daily income accruing from the D.M.R. Checkgate at Dawki ?

 
  (a) For the period April 1999 to February 2000, excluding 95(ninety five) days during which coal export did not take place, the average daily revenue on account of royalty comes to Rs.1,22,548.50
(b) The total number of days during the present financial year that trading to Bangladesh through Dawki did not take place ?
 
  (b) Coal exports to Bangladesh did not take place for 44 days from 04.10.99 to 16.11.99 and for 51(fifty one) days from 15.12.99 to 03.2.2000. Thus the total number of days on which there was no coal export comes to 95.
(c) The reasons why trading to Bangladesh through Dawki did not take place may kindly be stated ?
 



 



 

  (c) The coal exporters were required vide Public Notice dated 30.9.99, issued by the Director of Mineral Resources, to weigh the coal-laden trucks for the purposed of determination of the amount of royalty at a weigh bridge owned by M/s Eurica Tariang at Dawki, in supersession of the earlier practice of volumetric measurement i.e./ measurement on the basis of volume-to-weight ratio. The exporters of coal in Bangladesh did not accept the new arrangement and stopped the cross-border coal trade from 14..10.99 to 16.11.99 and again from 15.12.99 to 03.2.2000.

Land Tenure System

(b) If so, what steps the Government had taken to increase credit facilities to the farmers.

 


(a) & (b). Farmers' requirement of loan crop loan does not depend on land tenure system since no mortgage collateral security is required for such loans, Sir.


 
(c) If not, the number of farmers who had received credit facilities based on the recommendation of the department.   (c) Farmers directly approach Banks for crop loans and departmental recommendations are not required.

Timber Ban

Agriculture Schemes

Tele-communication for Mangsang

Dis-appearance Case

(a) Whether the police had been able to solve the mystery case of disappearance of Shri Phum Buhphang of Laitkor Tiewlieh ?   (a) No.

 
(b) If so, what is the factual position of the case ?


 

 

(b) On receipt of information from Sirdar of Laitkor Elaka regarding missing of Shri Phum Buhphang aged above 65 years of Laitkor, P.O. Mawkdoh, an entry was made in the general diary of Sohra Police Station vide Sohra Police Station General Diary entry No.61 dt.4.4.99.
 
(c) If not, why inspite of F.I.R., filed by the relatives and letter send by me to SP and O/C East Khasi Hills, Sohra the police could not solve the mystery ?

 
  (c) All possible efforts have been made to trace the missing person, but he could not be traced. So far no clue as to the where-about of the missing person has been forthcoming . However, efforts are continuing to trace the missing person.

Mini-Micro Hydel Project

(a) Whether it is a fact that all the 5 (five) numbers of Mini-Micro Hydel Project which were given by the Government of India free of cost, have been commissioned ?   (a) No, Sir.

 
(b) If the reply is in the affirmative since when ?   (b) Does not arise ion view of (a) above.
(c) If the reply is in the negative, the reason thereof ?








 
  (c) The testing of these sets were done during the month of May 1999 at four sites namely Umlangla, Kynthang, Tau and Ronga. During the process of testing and commissioning the R.C. Unit of Control Board of Tau and Umlangla got after running the machine for some duration while the other two sites i.e., Kynthang and Ronga the machine does not attained the required voltage and frequency. Therefore these four sites could not be commissioned. The Latynger site since modification in the control Board is required.

Supply of Electricity
