Numbers of Widows in Meghalaya

* 1.Will the Minister-in-charge, Social Welfare be pleased to state:-    
 (a) Whether the Government had any record of the number of widows in Meghalaya from among the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo's ?   (a) No, Sir.
     
     
 (b) If so, what steps the Government is undertaken to help them ?    (b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.
     
 (c) If not, the reasons thereof ?   (c) No survey has been return is conducted.

* 2. Will the Minister-in-charge, Power be pleased to state :-    
 (a) Whether the MeSEB had a negative or Positive rate of return ?   (a) Sir, rate of return is negative.
     
 (b) If so, by now much ?   (b) During the year 1999-2000, the Meghalaya State Electricity Board is expected to have a negative return of (-) 19,98%.
     
     
 (c) Whether commercial looses is the factor of Negative Return ?   (c) The loss is due to the low tariff.
     
 (d) If yes, what steps the Government takes to overcome ?   (d) The Board has revised the tariff with effect from 1.11.99.

Reservation, modernisation of transmission and distribution system

 (a) Whether the MeSEB will take up renovation, modernization, strengthening of transmission and distribution system ?   (a) Yes, Sir.
     
     
 (b) If so, how much it had earmarked for this purpose.   (b) Rs.950.00 Lakhs is earmarked for 2000-2001 from State Plan.
   

Targetted capacity

* 4. Will the Minister-in-charge, Power be pleased to stste :-    
 (a) Whether the Board had targeted additional capacity for the next five years ?   (a) Sir, the Myntdu Lashka Hydro Electic Project is proposed to be taken up.
 
 (b) If so, by now much mega watt we expect and by how much the fund will be needed ?   (b) 242 MW and Rs.363 Crores
 
 (c) Whether the fund available will meet the requirements ?   (c) An amount of Rs.2.00 Crores has been provided in the current year for pre-construction work.
   

Metering System

 (a) Whether the Board had introduced metering system in the rural areas for power consumption /   (a) Yes, Sir, in certain areas where it is economically feasible.
 
 (b) If so, when ?   (b) Since the inception of Meghalaya State Electricity Board.
   
 (c) If not, the reasons thereof ?   (c) Does not arise in view of (b) above.
