(i) Gambergre Community & Rural Development Block in West Garo Hills on 7th, April 2001.
(ii) Kharkutta Community & Rural Development Block in East Garo Hills on 24th April, 2001.
(iii) Gasuapara Community & Rural Development Block in South Garo Hills on 17th May, 2001.
(c) Who was the Chief Guest in the respective Block inauguration? (c) Shri P.A. Sangma, MP was the Chief Guest for the inauguration of all the three new Blocks in Garo Hills, Sir.

Government Stand at Pyrdiwah

Sir, the stand of the State Government is that, land at Pyrdiwah belong to Meghalaya (India). This stand has also been communicated to the Government of India.

IV Grade Employees

Use of Chemicals

(a) What steps the Government had taken to do away with the use of Chemicals in Agricultural production?   (a) The Government is trying to popularise the use of organic manures and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Agricultural activities.
(b) Does the Government aware that the use of such Chemicals increased production but affect general health of the Consumer.   (b) Chemicals do help to increase the production. However, Government is not aware of the adverse effect on the general health of the consumer.

Repair Work of Tura Civil Hospital

Taking over of L.P. Schools

(b) If not, the reasons thereof?   (b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.

Jails Inmates

(a) The total number of the inmates in Shillong, Tura, Williamnagar and Jowai jails respectively? (a) Sir, the total number of inmates as on 15.6.2001 :
Shillong District jail is 259 (M-250 : F-9)
Jowai District Jail is 89 (M-89 : F-Nil)
Tura District Jail is 132 (M-131 : F-1) and Williamnagar District Jail is 56 (M-56 : F- Nil)
Total is 536 (M-526 : F-10)
(b) Whether the present accommodation being provided for the existing inmates are adequate or inadequate? (b) Sir, the present accommodation provided for the existing inmates is not adequate.

Agriculture Subsidy Beneficiaries

(a) The reason that out of Rs.51,58,363 only 2639 number of beneficiaries can be provided with Agriculture subsidy for procurement of seeds, Plant-protection-Chemicals?   (a) Sir, the amount of Rs.51,58,363/- which was available under the Potato Development Scheme in 1999-2000 was sufficient to cover only 2639 beneficiaries.
 
(b) Whether the Department is contemplating to find other methods so that benefit will go to large number of farmers or to a compact area?   (b) The Department is trying to increase the budgetary allocation for the scheme, so as to increase coverage.
 

X-Ray Machines

(a) Whether the department has purchased x-ray machines for different CHCs/PHCs during the years 1999-2000 and 2000-2001? (a) Sir, the sanction for purchase of X-Rays for different CHCs were given during 1998-99 and 1999-2000. No sanction for X-Ray for PHCs has been given.
(b) If the reply to (a) above is in the affirmative, the statement of x-ray technicians/assistants appointed against the CHCs/PHCs be placed on the Table of the House. (b) Sir, the statement is placed on the Table of the House.

Agriculture Subsidy

(a) Whether Rs.416.10 Lakhs as anticipated for Agriculture Subsidy for 2000-2001 by the Finance Department how much it will go to the farmer's interest?   (a) Sir, the total subsidy component is entirely in the farmer's interest.

 
(b) In what way the Department will spend this Rs.416.10 Lakhs so that it will boost Economy and high yielding?   (b) Sir, the whole amount is meant for the purchase of different types of agricultural inputs, which are then sold to farmers at subsidised rates.
(c) From this amount how much had been earmarked for support price of Potatoes and ginger?   (c) The amount earmarked for the support price of Potatoes & Ginger for 2000-2001 is Rs.3,50,000/-.
