(a) Whether it is a fact that there is a check gate manned by one NGO called N.C.D.A. on NH-62 near Nonalbibra?   (a) No, Sir,
 
(b) If so, whether it is an authorised check gate of the Department?   (b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.
(c) What is the revenue collected so far during the current financial year?   (c) Does not arise in view of (a) above.
 
(d) Is it a fact that it has the patronage of the D.T.O. South Garo Hills?   (d) No, Sir.

Jails in the State

*22. Will the Minister-in-charge, Home (Jails) be pleased to state :-    
(a) Is the Government aware that the Jails in the State are grossly inadequate to house the prisoners?



 
  (a) The Jails in the State of Meghalaya are adequate to house the prisoners, except District Jail, Shillong which is inadequate due to the fact that the prisoners from West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi are also being housed in the District Jail, Shillong.
(b) What action is being taken in this matter?


 
  (b) Government plans to construct new jail at Nongstoin and Nongpoh, and modernize existing jail at Shillong, subject to availability of adequate funds.

(a) Whether it is a fact that there is a Transport check gate at Dobu on NH-62 in East Garo Hills?   (a) Yes, Sir.
 
(b) What is the revenue collected so far from this gate?
 
  (b) Rs.64,300.00 (Rupees Sixty four thousand three hundred).
(c) How many tonnes of coal have been off-loaded from trucks during 2001-2002?   (c) 1,500 M.T. (approximately).
 
(d) What is the method adopted for auctioning the off-loaded coal?
 
  (d) Through public auction in the presence of Magistrate 1st Class and a Senior Police Officer.
(e) How many times auctioning have been done in 2001-2002?   (e) 8 (eight) times, Sir.
