(b) If so, whether the policy includes opening of new such schools too?   (b) yes, Sir. Existing Secondary Schools are being upgraded to Higher Secondary Schools in phased manner.
(c) If so, what is the target of giving sanction of adhoc grants to such schools?   (c) Sir, as lumpsum grants in aid @Rs.30,000/- P.M. per school subject to availability of fund.

Water Supply

(b) What action Government is taking to promote farmers who are cultivating cash crops?

 
(b) Government is promoting the cultivator of these cash crops by implementing various subsidy schemes and providing necessary inputs to the interested farmers.

Relief assistance in cash @ 1,000/- per family, as per the prescribed scale of assistances, has been provided to the flood affected victims on 24.6.2002.

  (b) Government is examining the feasibility of providing 2nd Teacher in Single teacher Schools by way of redeployment from Schools having excess teachers based on their enrolment figures.

Employment Exchange

  (a) Sir, there are 11 (eleven) Offices of Employment Exchanges located at Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin, Williamnagar, Nongpoh, Sohra, Resubelpara, Ampati, Mairang and Baghmara.
(b) The actual number of job seekers in the live register?
 
  (b) Sir, there are 38,727 Job Seekers in the Live Register.

(b) Whether an MLA can form such Committee (s) of his own choice without convening/holding any public meeting?   (b) No, Sir.
 

Dead Body

(a) Whether the Government is aware of the incident that took place on the night of 19th May, 2002 relating to the cremation of a dead body at the cremation ground at Lapalang Village, Shillong?   (a) Yes, Sir.


 
(b) If so, what action has been taken on the incident?




 
  (b) On 27-5-2002, a meeting was convened under the Chairmanship of SP (City) which was attended by Headman of Lapalang, Members of Seng Longkmie and Seng Samla of Lapalang. In the meeting both the sides agreed to sort out problem amicably and to maintain peace and harmony.
