Social security to teachers

The steps the Department of Education has taken for raising the quality of education at the school and college level?

(d) Steps taken at Higher Education :-

(i) Upgrading the Skills and knowledge of teachers as follows:-

(a) Teachers are being deputed for B.Ed Courses.

(b) Only Graduate with B.Ed., are being appointed to the post of Asstt. teacher (Arts) and preference given to B.Ed. passed in case of Asstt. teacher (Sc.) and Asstt. lecturers of H.S. Schools.

(c) NET passed is a minimum qualification for lecturers in Colleges.

(d) Lecturers have to undergo Orientation and Refresher Courses so as to be qualified for placement in the UGC Scales.

(ii) Upgrading infrastructure and curriculum.

Steps taken as the Elementary Level :-

(1) Accelerated effort to train untrained teachers through DIETS and in collaboration with IGNOU.

(2) Stepping up of Monitoring and supervision of Schools.

(3) Improvement of Infrastructure.

SSA Scheme

Whether the SSA Scheme is being implemented in the Urban areas?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b)

If so, the progress reports of the same?

(b) The Progress in respect of SSA in Urban Areas is as follows :-

1. All Government and aided Primary and Upper Primary Schools within the urban areas are sanctioned School grant of Rs.2000/- p.a.

2. All teachers of Government and Aided Primary and Upper Primary Schools are sanctioned teachers' grant at Rs.500/- per teacher per annum.

3. Community Leaders are being trained.

4. Untrained teachers are being deputed to undergo training at the DIET/NTC/BTC or for the CPE course being conducted by IGNOU.

5. Teachers are being deputed to undergo in service short term training.

6. Out of School Children are being enrolled in EGS Centres.

7. Upgradation to Upper Primary is being taken up whenever and wherever criteria are fulfilled.

8. Under Civil Works, construction of Urban Resource Centre at Rs.2 lakhs per URC have been completed at Nongstoin and under construction at Williamnagar.

9. Textbooks are being provided to needy children.

10. 12 Urban Resource Centres have been set up.

Repair of PWD Road

(c) The approach road is with the PWD (Building wing), and at the moment there is no proposal to transfer to any other Department.

Due to the re-engineering of Khyndailad junction, which is nearing completion and has eased the traffic congestion considerable now, there is no proposal for a flyover there.

   

A preliminary study for the re-engineering of Motphran junction, which may include a flyover, has been initiated.
