(a), (b) & (c) Sir, the total amount sanctioned for the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) is Rs.9503.77 lakhs and the scheme is expected to be completed by December, 2006. A statement of year wise expenditure since its inception is placed on the table of the House

(b) If so, the total amount sanctioned and spent for the project year-wise since its inception upto 2005-06 ?

(c) The actual targeted time for completion of the project ?

Rape Cases

(a) The number of rape/attempt to rape cases registered in all the Police Stations in the State ?

(a) Sir, the number of rape cases registered is 132 Nos. and number of cases of attempted rape registered is 39 Nos.

(b) The action Government had initiated against the persons involved ?

(b) 96 cases have been charged sheeted, and are pending before the court, 44 cases are pending investigation 30 cases ended in Final Report and 1 case disposed off where the accused was convicted and sentenced to 2 years regorous imprisonment.

(b) Yes, Sir. The Department has taken initiatives to promote various activities such as trekking, caving, watersports, golf, eco-tourism for attracting foreign tourists. Participation in major International Tourism Fairs/marts has also provided an excellent opportunity to promote and market our tourism products in the International arena.

Sir, the total amount of Revenue collected by Jowai Municipal Board Toll gates for 2003, 2004 and 2005 is Rs.1,37,68,885/- (Rupees One crore, thirty seven lakhs, sixty eight thousand, eight hundred eighty five) only.

Development of Water-shed area

The Department of Soil & Water Conservation is implementing both the mechanical measures like construction of Head Water Dams, Terraces, Conservation Ponds, etc., as well as the biological measures like establishing of afforestation & Cash Crop Plantation in any of the selected Water shed Areas.

As for the policies of developing the Water Shed Areas, the Department strictly follows the guidelines of the scheme sanctioned by the Government of India, right from the time of selection of Watershed Areas upto the time of implementation as well as the post implementation stage of the projects, Sir.
